Tendon Pain That Won’t Shift

Tendonitis has a way of wearing you down. It might not feel dramatic, but the constant ache every time you use the affected area — gripping, lifting, walking, climbing stairs — makes everything harder than it should be.

Maybe you rested it for a while and it felt better, only for the pain to come straight back the moment you tried to do anything. Or perhaps it’s been niggling for months and you’ve just learned to work around it. Either way, you don’t have to keep managing it on your own.

Do Any of These Apply to You?

Tendonitis affects people in different ways depending on the site. You might recognise some of these:

Localised pain that worsens with activity

And improves when you rest?

Stiffness after inactivity

— first thing in the morning or after sitting for a while?

Pain in your Achilles, knee, shoulder, or elbow

That keeps coming back?

The area feels tender to touch

Or slightly thickened compared to the other side?

Rest helped at first

But the pain returned as soon as you went back to normal?

It’s been going on for weeks or months

And doesn’t seem to be improving?

If any of these sound familiar, you’re in the right place. At the Canonbury Clinic, we specialise in treating tendonitis and tendinopathy — conditions that respond particularly well to shockwave therapy and high-powered laser therapy.

What Is Tendonitis?

Tendons connect muscle to bone, and they’re designed to handle significant loads. But when they’re overloaded — through repetitive strain, a sudden increase in activity, or poor biomechanics — they can become painful and irritated.

Many long-standing cases are more accurately described as tendinopathy rather than tendonitis. The distinction matters: tendinopathy is a degenerative process where micro-damage accumulates over time, leading to collagen disorganisation, thickening, and reduced tensile strength. It’s not simply inflammation — and that’s why anti-inflammatory approaches alone often don’t work.

Common sites for tendon problems include:

  • Achilles tendon — pain at the back of the ankle, common in runners and active people
  • Patellar tendon — pain below the kneecap, often called “jumper’s knee”
  • Rotator cuff tendonsshoulder pain from overuse or repetitive reaching
  • Elbow tendons — tennis elbow (lateral) or golfer’s elbow (medial)

The key to recovery is controlled, progressive loading — not complete rest. Your tendon needs the right amount of stimulus to repair and strengthen. That’s where professional treatment and a structured rehabilitation programme make the difference. Improvement takes weeks to months, but with the right approach, it does get better.

Your Tendonitis Treatment Plan

At the Canonbury Clinic, we’ve treated tendon problems for over 30 years. We combine hands-on treatment with advanced technology — including shockwave therapy and high-powered laser therapy, both of which are particularly effective for tendinopathy — to give your tendon the best chance of recovery.

Our unique multi-faceted approach gives you the best chance of a fast and lasting recovery:

  • Osteopathy — gentle, hands-on manipulation to restore mobility and address biomechanical issues
  • Deep Tissue Massage — targeted pressure to release chronic tension and muscle spasm
  • Assisted Stretching — practitioner-guided stretching to improve flexibility
  • G5 Massage — mechanical massage to increase blood flow and reduce stiffness
  • Laser Therapy — deep tissue healing using our Class 4 MLS laser
  • Ultrasound Treatment — therapeutic sound waves to promote tissue repair
  • Kinesio Taping — supportive taping to aid recovery between sessions
  • Bespoke Exercise Programme — tailored progressive loading exercises to strengthen the tendon and prevent recurrence

Every treatment plan is tailored to your specific condition, your body, and your goals. We don’t do one-size-fits-all.
